The first master of St Cuthbert’s was a talented wizard from the Outer Hebrides by the name of Archibald Bagglesport. A former charms professor at Hogwarts, he sported a truly magnificent beard, and commissioned the erection of some splendid college buildings in the cutting-edge perpendicular gothic style. One notable example is the astronomy tower, enchanted by Bagglesport (“Old Baggy”) himself, which boasts the unusual feature of being 3,000 feet tall from the top but only 13 feet tall from the bottom.
Finding both students and teachers proved more of a challenge, however the combination of regular six course meals, a well-stocked cellar of goblin made wine, and the invention of the “free reading week” all proved an attractive combination, and soon the college boasted a thriving community. The grand college library and the magical research laboratories attracted scholars from across the known wizarding world, and eager students were able to learn directly from such masters as Leonardo Largissimo, inventor of the swelling solution, and Wu Yu Wei, discoverer of the inverted puddle charm. |
For the interested visitor St Cuthbert’s is located somewhere between the colleges of Brasenose, All Souls and Exeter, although modern anti-muggle features such as unplottibility make it hard to offer precise directions. A general guide is to keep and eye out for the disappearing cat (more on this later). |
